About Area

Ortigas Center started in 1931 as a property venture between Francisco Ortigas, Vicente Madrigal, B.C.M. Johnston, Fulgencio Borromeo, Clyde A. Dewitt, and Manuel L. Quezon, who eventually became President of the Philippines. However, it was not until the late 1970s that the area started to be developed.

Early occupants like corporations Meralco, San Miguel Corporation, Asian Development Bank, and institutions University of Asia and the Pacific, then Poveda Learning Centre, Lourdes School, and churches like Greenhills Christian Fellowship and St. Francis of Assisi Parish helped Ortigas Center become the second most strategic business district after Makati Central Business District.

In the late 1980s to early 1990s, malls like Robinsons Galleria, SM Megamall, and Shangri-la Plaza, alongside EDSA Shangri-la Hotel cemented the status of Ortigas as a retail and shopping destination.
