In a dynamic and ever-changing world, interior design plays a pivotal role in shaping the way we live and interact with spaces. As we navigate through a post-pandemic era, the concept of design has evolved, adapting to new lifestyles and demands. And Interior & Design Manila (IDM) stands at the forefront of this evolution.
Evolution of EDM's Goals and Objectives
To understand IDM's journey, we sat down with Mr. Patrick Lawrence Tan, Global-Link MP CEO, who provided insights into the organization's goals and how they've evolved over the years. IDM's primary objective is to usher in a new era of lifestyle design, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This shift has transformed the layout of rooms, the creation of lobbies, and the overall design of spaces.
In essence, IDM seeks to showcase the changes that are not only possible but necessary to meet the evolving needs of the tourism industry. As travel and hospitality adapt to new norms, interior design becomes a vital player in creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe and functional.
Supporting Industry Professionals and Networking
Interior design is a collaborative field, and IDM understands the importance of networking and knowledge-sharing among industry professionals. The organization serves as a platform where diverse sectors can come together, share insights, and work collectively to advance the industry.
"IDM is a platform for industries to merge and work together and develop and share knowledge. Part of the overall concept is to get people to meet in a common ground where they can share their knowledge and develop the industry further."
At events like Interior & Design Manila Hospitality, industry giants, interior designers, architects, decorators, and businesses all converge to participate in conferences, seminars, and exhibitions. These events not only provide opportunities for networking but also facilitate the exchange of ideas, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the industry.
Promoting Local Excellence with Global Integration
IDM takes immense pride in promoting local talent and products. Around 90 percent of the exhibitors at their events are local manufacturers from various regions in the Philippines. These local products, often of world-class quality, are showcased alongside cutting-edge technologies from across the globe.
This approach emphasizes a fusion of the best of both worlds—local craftsmanship and global innovation. It's a testament to IDM's commitment to bolstering the local market while ensuring it remains globally competitive.
"I would say about 90 percent of our exhibitors here are local to begin with. What we did is we got the best of the local manufactured products, primarily from Cebu, from Pampanga, from Manila. And showcase them because we truly have world class products. And merge them with the growing technologies from all over the world." Mr. Tan shares.
Partnerships and Collaborations for a Stronger Impact
The success of EDM's initiatives relies on strong partnerships with various industry organizations and associations. These collaborations enhance the reach and impact of their campaigns and projects. For instance, at IDM Hospitality, they collaborate with organizations ranging from the Hotel Restaurant Association to hotel owners, interior designers, architects, contractors, and building maintenance professionals. The goal is to bring together practitioners from different fields under one roof to collectively develop the tourism, interior design, and hospitality sectors.
"We are a unique organizer and a fortunate one that we are able to work with many organizations. Everyone's here to try to develop our tourism, our interiors, our hospitality industry together. [This] is our role, to bring people together. And we're very happy we're able to do this on this show." Mr. Tan proudly states.
An Invitation to Industry Professionals
In closing, IDM extends an invitation to all industry professionals to experience their shows and events. These gatherings offer a unique opportunity to explore beautiful exhibitions, discover innovative products, and gain valuable insights. It's a space where networking leads to collaboration, and where the future of interior design and lifestyle is shaped.
