Mother’s Day Special: Interview with Real Estate Moms

Get to know more about the best of both worlds of being a mother and a real estate professional.

In celebration of this year’s Mother’s day, we asked some inspirational mothers and real estate professionals partnered with PropertyAccess about motherhood, working in the real estate, and their life at home during the pandemic.

Bernadette A. Jison (SMDC International Sales Director)

1. How did real estate help you and your family?

Real estate has helped me big time.  I have sent all my 3 kids to school until they finish college with my earnings from real estate. I have invested here and there all by doing and selling real estate.

2. How is your work/ lifestyle balance especially during these times?

There’s currently not much of a choice but living in a decent house, going to our individual rooms when we want privacy, and lounging in the family room while bonding, watching netflix, and enjoying food deliveries.

3. Do you think that being a mother enhances your capabilities as a real estate agent? Which motherly traits do you think so?

Houses provide security like how investment provides security. A house is really where the heart is of every family.  It’s the nurturing side of me, I believe so.

4. How would you define home as a mother and a real estate agent?

I’m enjoying doing both because I don’t consider my job as a job. I have been doing it for 30 years. Managing a team and seeing all of my team members grow and develop is the same with what I do with my kids.  So the definition of home for me is rewarding.

5. Top 3 tips or words of advice you could give to your fellow mom agents

(1) Treat your real estate clients like your children.  You have to become their friends to trust you. (2) Learn about the project you are offering – the pros and cons. Not only the positive ones. (3) Treat each and every client and projects of yours like your baby, with care and sincerity. Go the extra mile for your client . When they are buying a property, always see it from their point of view so you can understand their needs. You will be surprised that your client will always cling to you, refer clients to you, and  brand you as a “great agent ” like how your children brand you as “the best mom.”

Angelica Ong-Uy (Real Estate Broker at Realty)

1. How did real estate help you and your family?

It has helped me and my family a lot. It has taught us early on to invest in real estate, and has provided everything we have actually, because both me and my husband’s main source of income is real estate.

2. How is your work/ lifestyle balance especially during these times?

I am actually really thankful because my leader and my company have adjusted aggressively to the new normal. We were trailblazers when it came to getting sales through webinars, and have actually maintained our sales performance pre-pandemic.

3. Do you think that being a mother enhances your capabilities as a real estate agent? Which motherly traits do you think so?

Yes! Definitely patience and empathy.

4. How would you define home as a mother and a real estate agent?

Home is wherever as long as you are happy.

5. Top 3 tips or words of advice you could give to your fellow mom agents

(1) Hang in there. There may be times your daughter will come barging in during a presentation. But trust me, it’s sometimes a good endearing experience with you and your client. (2) Let your family be your inspiration during those 1am or 3am webinars. (3) Though our setup is work from home, don’t forget to take a break!

Patricia R. Arellano (Avida Land Corp. Property Specialist)

1. How did real estate help you and your family?

Real estate has helped my family achieve our goals in life. It also helped us dream higher about our future.

2. How is your work/ lifestyle balance especially during these times?

So far, it’s a bit difficult, but as real estate professionals, we can handle every situation we are in, and we can easily adjust to the new normal.

3. Do you think that being a mother enhances your capabilities as a real estate agent? Which motherly traits do you think so?

Yes of course. Being a full time working mother, I do have some guilt and stress because of my divided attention between work and family. But as a mother, we need to plan, be organized, and find the right balance between our profession and parenthood.

4. How would you define home as a mother and a real estate agent?

As a mother, home is where a happy family lives together. And as a real estate agent, home is where your dreams come true.

5. Top 3 tips or words of advice you could give to your fellow mom agents

(1) Focus on the goal. (2) Time management. (3) Never stop dreaming for your family.

Iyumi M. Lopez (Amaia Property Specialist)

1. How did real estate help you and your family?

Being a real estate agent is a great opportunity for me because it helps me to support my family’s needs, and we know the fact that the money is in sales.

2. How is your work/ lifestyle balance especially during these times?

When the pandemic happened, we all made a lot of adjustments in our lives, but what’s good about it is that I have more time with my family while I’m working at home. That is how I balance my lifestyle.

3. Do you think that being a mother enhances your capabilities as a real estate agent? Which motherly traits do you think so?

Yes, because one of a mother’s traits is being caring, and to be a great real estate agent, you need to take care of all your clients.

4. How would you define home as a mother and a real estate agent?

As a mother, I’ll always make sure that our home is where my family can relax and keep them safe; while as a real estate agent, I’ll give my client their dream home for their family’s future.

5. Top 3 tips or words of advice you could give to your fellow mom agents

(1) Love your family and job. (2) Always think the best for your family to motivate you in selling more properties. (3) Always give your 101% as a mother and as a real estate agent.
